When it comes to choosing what to have for breakfast, putting eggs on the menu could be a wise decision.
According to the Egg Nutrition News Bureau, eating eggs for breakfast has been associated with better management of hunger over the course of a day.
The protein-rich food is found to compete well with the carbohydrate-laden alternative of bagels.
As a result, egg eaters typically feel more satisfied as long as three hours after their morning meal.
The bureau adds that the increased satisfaction is linked with decreased feelings of hunger.
Even up to a day after eating eggs for breakfast, total calorie consumption was seen to be less than in those who had eaten bagels.
The study was led by Dr Maria Luz Fernandez of the University of Connecticut and is among the research being presented at Experimental Biology 2009.
Meanwhile, the University of Kansas Medical Center is also presenting at the event, with findings that also indicate eggs as a preferential breakfast choice.
Researchers discovered that solid protein-rich foods such as eggs help stave off hunger for longer than their liquid equivalents such as protein shakes.
The Egg Nutrition Center notes that eggs offer the extra benefits of being delicious, nutritious and affordable - as well as being quick to cook.
